Borderline Personality Disorder Zine, Kuala Lumpur Art Book Fair 2023

What is Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and what are its symptoms? What is a personality disorder? The BPD zine is a zine on mental health and art that attempts to answer all these questions. The 52 (cover-to-cover) color page zine features artworks from my Borderline series made between 2021 and 2023 which drew inspiration from my experience living with BPD.

Selected artworks featured in the zine were exhibited for the Duality group exhibition at Zhan Art Space (2021), 1000 Tiny Artworks exhibition, The Backroom KL (2021) and the ‘Mental Health Is A Universal Human Right’ exhibition in conjunction with World Mental Health Day 2023 at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre Gallery.

The writings in this publication reference evidence-based literature, chiefly The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) and various research papers and scientific literature. Citations and sources have been provided whenever possible. I hope that by dispelling the stigma associated with mental disorders and fostering a better understanding of this life-threatening illness it will foster empathy & understanding of mental health conditions like BPD.

The BPD zine was released at KL Art Book Fair (KLABF) which was held on the 8-10 December at Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall. The art book fair boasted over 100 exhibitors, comprising exhibitors from Malaysia, Canada, Taiwan, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, US, South Korea and Hong Kong.
